Flashback Friday: Tales of Coles County at Lake Land College

This October, I thought it might be fun to take our readers on a trip down memory lane. I started doing talks on the legends and lore of Illinois in 2007, and since then, I’ve been lucky to have attended many great events, meeting a lot of interesting folks in the process. On February 12, 2014, I achieved a longtime goal of doing a presentation on the legends and lore of Coles County at a local college. I had previous done a presentation at my alma mater, Eastern Illinois University, but that was sponsored by a club and not an “official” school event. Thanks to an old friend, Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois hired me to do a talk about my book Tales of Coles County at their “Tacos and Tales” event. They really made me feel like a celebrity, even featuring my name on a marquee (“Michael Kleen & Tacos”). Jokingly, I told my friend I wouldn’t do the presentation unless he brought me 12 green M&Ms, and he actually did! It was one of my most well-attended events (although, to be honest, there were free tacos available). I had a great time meeting and speaking with a lot of local fans.
