Haunted Rockford a Wonderful Home for Local History, Folklore, and Events

HauntedRockfordAt a time when many websites devoted to ghost stories and the paranormal are still stuck in the old Geocities and html days, HauntedRockford.com stands out as an example of what every website dedicated to local lore should strive for. Haunted Rockford’s beauty lies in its simplicity. The dark purple color scheme, coupled with the black and white photos on the front page, is visually appealing. Its background brings to mind a modern Gothic take on old Victorian wallpaper.

HauntedRockford.com is divided into several pages, including a page for events, the Illinois Paranormal Conference, articles, a gallery, forums, and more. The Illinois Paranormal Conference began in Rockford in 2012 and is on its third iteration. I had the pleasure of attending the conference for the past few years, as well as its predecessor, the Rockford Paracon. Kathi Kresol, proprietor of Haunted Rockford, always works hard to put on a great event every year, with speakers from all over the country.

Haunted Rockford is one of the most active tour groups in Illinois, if not the Midwest. Kathi is constantly hosting events at a reasonable price. These include murder mystery bus tours, tours of haunted places around Rockford, public investigations, psychic readings, and more. She even takes groups into Tinker Swiss Cottage, which was featured on the show Ghost Hunters in 2012. The event calendar is clean and easy to read. The gallery of local cemeteries is also worth mentioning, as it contains many beautiful shots.

Haunted RockfordThe highlight of Haunted Rockford, however, has to be the stories and articles. Kathi Kresol, who also writes a regular column called “Voices from the Grave” for the Rock River Times, has written several articles about legends and haunted places not just around Rockford, but from around the state and even Wisconsin. My personal favorite is “Ghost Bridge Road.” Kathi has a way with weaving history and her own personal experiences.

Launched earlier this year, HauntedRockford.com lacks a great deal of content, but it is growing every week. I would recommend adding it to your bookmarks and coming back to explore Kathi’s well-researched and entertaining articles. If you are in the Rockford area, make sure to attend one of these wonderful events as well.
